Having waited patiently all summer, I watched the small, green fruit of the pomegranate tree ripen into ruby, red globes. I greedily reached for the biggest one and cracked open my prize to be rewarded with its glistening, tart seeds. I now understand why Persephone, the Greek goddess of spring and fruit, could not resist the tempting seeds of the pomegranate. I gluttonously ate three, savoring each bite, while silently thanking Mother Nature for her ability to have created the most perfectly balanced sweet/sour fruit I had ever tasted!
